Gamza Granny 2019 is a distinctive expression of 100% Gamza, an ancient Bulgarian grape from the Danube River Plain. Made from remarkable 62-year-old vines, this medium-bodied red is fresh and vibrant, balancing juicy red fruit with floral notes, gentle earthiness, and a subtle rustic edge.
The nose offers red berries, white flowers, and hints of caramel. On the palate, blueberry and bright red fruit are lifted by lively acidity, with soft tannins and delicate grassy undertones adding complexity. Three years of aging in used Bulgarian oak brings subtle earthy depth without overwhelming the fruit.
The grapes come from organically farmed vineyards and undergo spontaneous fermentation in Bulgarian oak with 14 days of skin contact, followed by extended aging in used oak. The wine is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with no added SO₂, allowing the character of the old vines and native grape to shine through.
